Meals On Wheels (MOW) Overview
Meals on Wheels (MOW) are for homebound individuals over the age of 60. To receive MOW. the client must meet predetermined criteria. MOW's are furnished in part through federal, state and local dollars.
In addition, The Council on Aging (COA) provides meals for homebound individuals regardless of age - these clients pay for the meals themselves. Recepients pay per meal and may order selectively from the MOW menu. For example, if they don't want any meals with chicken, they can mark the order form accordingly and meals with chicken will not be delivered to them. All monies derived from this program are used as part of our local funding for the MOW program, allowing more low-income seniors to receive a meal.
What Makes A Good Volunteer
- dependability - clients depend on getting their meal safely and efficiently
- a strong desire to help the home bound elderly
- an optimistic outlook and a sense of humor - we never know what the client may be facing
- patience and tactfulness.
What is Expected Of You As A Volunteer
MOW volunteers are asked to commit to delivering one route at least one day per week. Those volunteers who aren't able to make this commitment, but are willing to be a substitute, are placed on the Substitute List and can be contacted as needed. If you would like to be placed on the Substitute List please talk to the Dining Site Manager, Mike D'Agostino.
