Dinning Site Code Of Conduct
The following guidelines for Council On Aging of Volusia County Senior Center staff in maintaining orderly operation of the Senior Center and programs at its various satellite sites with regard to the behavior of visitors and participants to the Center and its programs. In case of disruptive or inappropriate behavior every effort will be made to determine if the behavior is caused by a medical condition. In that case, staff will work with the participant and if appropriate the participant's family to provide options for obtaining assistance.
1. Disruptive behavior will not be allowed in the Senior Center, on Center property, or at a satellite program.
(a) Disruptive behavior is defined as any activity that distracts and/or annoys staff, participants and visitors to the Center
program.
(b) It is Senior Center staff's responsibility to address and and all disruptive behavior. Staff members have discretion
as to what action will be taken in dealing with the prepertrators of such behavior. This action may include, but not limited
to, talking with the person, counseling with the person, asking the person to leave the Center and/or Center property or the
program temporarily or permanently, calling the police and/or taking legal action.
2. Behaviors fitting the above definition of disruptive include the following:
(a) Smoking in the Center or in its satellite programs. Smoking is only allowed in designated areas.
(b) Drinking alcohol in the Center, on Center property, or at a satellite program unless at an approved event.
(c) Reasonable suspicion of alcohol or drug intoxication, including observance of bloodshot eyes, staggering gait, ordor of
alcohol, erractic behavior, violent ,ood swings, extremem lethargy, or excitation.
(d) Unruly behavior defined as any loud speech, threathening, or violent conduct affecting others at the facilty or
program.
(e) Unsupervised or unaccompanied children under age 18.
(f) Incapable of functioning independently. Participants who require an escort or supervision to assist with physical
needs, must be accom,panied by a responsible person at all time while participating at the Center or satellite program.
(g) Unauthorized gambling on Center property or satellite program.
(h) Use of abusive language in the Center, on Center property, or satellite program, including profanity, ethinic or
racial slurs and name calling.
(i) Lack of cleanliness or unwelcome body ordor.
(j) Irrational behavior.
(k) Excessive use of public Center telephones, including conversation that exceed three minutes in length.
(l) Unauthorized distribution or presentation of political or religious materials or program.
(m) Unauthorized distribution of or use of prescribed or non-prescribed drugs, narcotics, tobacco products or alcoholic
beverages to participants.
(n) Unlawful possession or display of a firearm or other dangerous weapon.
(o) Sleeping in the Senior Center or a satellite program.
(p) Playing the television or other audio equipment too loudly or disrupting someone else who is watching television
by changing the channel or taking control of the remote.
(q) Unauthorized use of computer equipment for illegal purposes or any usage not during supervised computer class time.
