                          What Is Congregate Dining?

Council On Aging maintains eight dining centers located throughout Volusia county that serves a hot, nutricious noon-time meal for seniors who would like to dine in a group setting.  Consumers must be at least 60 years of age.  There are no income qualifications. Many of the seniors we serve live alone, have limited ability to cook or lack the incentive to prepare nourishing meals. While nutrition is the primary goal of this program, equally important are the social and recreational activities which include wellness seminars, educational speakers, exercise, music, games, cards and bingo.  No set fee is charged. However, each consumer is provided the opportunity to make a much appreciated donation. Please click here to read COA Dining Site Code Of Conduct  If you would like to have lunch at the center, just contact Mike or Mary at 386-574-0060. AT THE PRESENT TIME, CONGREGATE DINING IS CLOSED TO NEWCOMERS DUE TO LACK OF FUNDING

Tai Chi contributes to slow aging.  Another description for this low pact form of exercise is "meditation in motion".  However,  according to Harvard Womens Health Watch, it can better be described as "medicine in motion".  Evidence shows that it treats and prevents, many times better than conventional therapy many age related health conditions.  It lowers blood pressure, cholesterol, stabilizes bone density and also improves the well-being of those who have Parkinson's.
